George Chambers

Principal Advisor for EHR and Director, MHS Electronic Health Records Center




George ChambersGeorge Chambers, Senior Executive Service, was appointed Principal Advisor for EHR to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense, Health Affairs in July 2010.  Working closely with Army, Navy, and Air Force Deputy and Surgeons General, as well as with the Veterans Administration, he is responsible for standing up the MHS Electronic Health Record Center (MEHRC) in January 2011 and serves as its Director.  MEHRC provides expertise in legacy clinical programs, EHR development, and IT transition to ensure an undivided focus on informatics and technical support of Department of Defense clinical care.

Mr. Chambers comes from private industry where he was instrumental in the selection, acquisition, configuration, and deployment of enterprise scale EHR and clinical support systems in ambulatory, hospital, specialty practice, and academic research facility settings.

Prior to being named to his current positions, Mr. Chambers served as Vice President, CPS International, a provider of professional services to the healthcare industry.  In that role, Mr Chambers led the implementation and decommissioning of commercial off the shelf enterprise suite EHR products including a deployment recognized by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society with the 2010 Davies Award.  Other notable efforts included the selection and installation of a high performance computing cluster for state-of-art structural molecular modeling and bioinformatics research as well as the implementation of multiple hospital integrated specialty practice ambulatory EHR systems for a regional healthcare provider.

Previous positions held by Mr Chambers include regional Vice President with Computer Associates, Director Systems and Networking with First Consulting Group, Senior Manager for Management Consulting Services with Price Waterhouse, and Director Research & Development Programs for Westinghouse Defense Electronics.

Education
Mr. Chambers holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from the University of Maryland, College Park and a Masters of Engineering Administration from the George Washington University in Washington, DC.  He is also currently a PhD candidate in Health Policy and Translational Clinical Research at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
