Planning
The MHS Human Capital Office partners with many organizations to understand and address challenges and successes found in our mutual efforts to recruit, educate, develop, retain and transition employees. All of these efforts begin with understanding the landscape and planning for success. Many stakeholders are involved in this process.
Current initiatives and accomplishments:
Bi-Annual Meetings with Surgeons General:
The Chief Human Capital Officer, Ms. Maureen Viall, meets quarterly with the Surgeons General to hear about their challenges and needs and discuss how the Human Capital Office can assist in their efforts.
Quarterly Meetings with Stakeholder Groups:
General Officers and Senior Executive Servants from the services meet quarterly in a meeting initiated and organized by Ms. Viall. This group discusses and counsels together about the most challenging human capital issues facing the MHS.
Monthly Human Capital Steering Committee:
Ms. Viall also chairs a committee that meets monthly and includes leaders from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Public Health Service, TMA, Health Affairs, Civilian Personnel Management System, Joint Staff, JTF CapMed, Uniformed Services University of the Health Services, Joint Medical Executive Skills Institute and Medical Education and Training Campus. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss joint concerns, collaborate when it makes sense and keep each other up-to-date on important human capital developments.
Working Groups:
Working groups are established as needed, including representatives from the Services and other organizations, to tackle challenging issues or forward-thinking initiatives that would benefit a broad audience. Current working groups cover topics such as recruitment and retention, education and training, leadership development and information management/information technology.
