"Underlying all of our efforts is our need to continue to focus on innovations that can allow us to better deliver health and customer services in more imaginative and efficient ways... We will be engaging our military medical leaders in a concerted effort to identify and promulgate those innovations that present the most promise." — Dr. Jonathan Woodson, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs

The Military Health System innovation strategy supports the transformation of the organization’s culture into a more agile system that will help the MHS become a leader in healthcare delivery. This strategy brings together MHS employees, representatives of other federal agencies and private sector partners, to collaborate in developing best practices and initiatives that will drive the U.S. healthcare delivery system from healthcare to health. MHS Innovation Framework and Innovation Value Chain will help direct innovations and cultural change in support of this internal and external collaboration.

Support from all levels within the MHS is vital to ensuring that the innovation program continues to grow in a way that supports the organization and its beneficiaries. MHS employees are asked to get involved with the new focus on innovation in the MHS.

Involvement may include:

  • Joining the discussion about MHS innovation on the Facebook community page
  • Sharing innovative strategies and tactics that have worked in pockets of the MHS system
  • Contributing to the growing list of innovation resources, including relevant articles, white papers and websites
  • Supporting colleagues in developing and advancing their innovative ideas
