To better serve our customers, the Military Health System Cyberinfrastructure Services directorate is developing a catalogue of our product and service lines. The catalogue will include descriptions of each MCiS offering, so that we can collaborate effectively with customers to determine which information technology solutions will best meet their needs and requirements.

Innovation

To enable the MHS to stay on the leading edge of technology, MCiS conducts research and development in collaboration with federal and private-sector partners.

Evaluation

Once customers’ needs are identified, MCiS evaluates their requirements and determines the best information technology solutions to meet those needs. MCiS then designs solutions to meet the needs that fall within MCiS’ purview.

Service Modernization

MCiS is adding infrastructure services and enterprise solutions and improving existing services and products to better serve MHS customers and beneficiaries. We conduct technical alternative analyses to determine the optimal solutions for technology improvement and infrastructure refreshment. Current projects include the Clinical Data Repository modernization, which will improve the scalability, manageability, stability and performance of this storage unit for MHS beneficiaries’ health records.

Service Development, Testing and Deployment

Once information technology capabilities are designed or refined, MCiS rigorously tests and evaluates them. Only capabilities that have been validated through testing are deployed to the enterprise.

Service Operations

To keep the MHS communications and computing infrastructure up and running, MCiS provides support for MHS centrally managed products deployed world-wide. A major feature of MCiS service operations is the MHS Service Desk, which responds to customers’ information technology problems 24/7/365 around the globe. MCiS also provides information technology support services for the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs and the TRICARE Management Activity, which includes the Defense Centers of Excellence for Vision and Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury.

Regional Services

MCiS oversees the daily activities of MHS operations centers, including power; lighting; heating, ventilation and air conditioning; network connectivity; maintenance; security and overall facility status. Key projects include the consolidation of MHS centrally managed systems into the MHS Enterprise Service Operations Center located in San Antonio, Texas.
