FALLS CHURCH, Va. —Wayne Speaks and Narinder (Nick) Saund recently received Federal Computer Week Rising Star awards for their outstanding work in military health information technology for the Department of Defense, Military Health System, Office of the Chief Information Officer.

Speaks serves as Deputy Program Manager for the Tri-Service Infrastructure Management Program Office, which manages a secure, robust and standards-based infrastructure to support standard automated information systems deployed throughout the MHS, including the military’s electronic health record. He was recognized for his oversight in directing the development and execution of a $200 million per year information technology program, implementing a daily process to assess performance of mission critical MHS applications and the communications and computing infrastructure components that support them and for establishing a MHS Service Center ahead of schedule and within budget.

Saund is a Chief Technology Officer for Defense Health Services Systems, whose products help detect and contain the spread of disease, manage the delivery of drugs and medical supplies, and track billions of dollars annually in health care services to more than 9.6 million beneficiaries around the world. He was recognized for his leadership in the design, development, budgeting and implementation of global enterprise information technology solutions for the MHS.

“The work of these individuals is very impressive and worthy of such great recognition,” said Charles Campbell, Chief Information Officer. “Their contributions to the military health IT environment are a true reflection of our mission.”

The Federal Computer Week Rising Star awards, sponsored by the 1105 Government Information Group, honor up-and-coming government and industry employees who are making a substantial mark in the federal information technology community. This year's judges selected 24 individuals for the award from more than 100 nominations.

Federal Computer Week will formally honor Speaks and Saund at the Government Computer News Gala in October.
