Research and Recent Publications |
|
Research and medical publications (articles from peer-reviewed medical and scientific
journals) are a vital part of the Military Health System. Below are some of the
latest research efforts that are helping the men and women that make up the MHS:
 |
Congressionally Directed Medical Research
Programs (CDMRP)
The Congressionally Directed Medical Research
Programs (CDMRP) originated from a unique partnership among the public,
Congress, and the Department of Defense. Created in 1992 to fund research on the
screening and diagnosis of breast cancer among military women and dependents, CDMRP
has become second only to the National Cancer Institute as a source of funding for
breast cancer research. After success in managing the breast cancer research program,
the CDMRP was tasked to manage other research programs, including current programs
on neurofibromatosis, cancers of the breast, ovaries and prostate, chronic myelogenous
leukemia, and prion diseases.

Military Infectious
Diseases Research Program (MIDRP)
The mission of the Military Infectious
Diseases Research Program (MIDRP) is to protect the U.S. military against
naturally occurring infectious diseases via the development vaccines, drugs, diagnostics
and vector control protection systems. MDRP’s research is focused on needs that
are, for the most part, not shared by other organizations because of the unique
nature of our military operations and population. MIDRP continues to research and
develop vaccines to protect service members against infectious diseases including
malaria, adenovirus, HIV/AIDS, and leishmaniasis. The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID)
is a major partner in HIV/AIDS vaccine development activities.

DoD Deployment Health Clinical Center (DHCC)
The core mission of the
DoD Deployment Health Clinical Center (DHCC) is to improve deployment health
through optimizing deployment-related healthcare across the Military Health System.
This mission is accomplished through a strategy which includes Clinical and Health
Services Research aimed at advancing the effective delivery of deployment-related
healthcare.
DHCC's deployment-related clinical
research is extramurally funded and self-sustaining. DHCC has successfully
completed a wide range of projects that put science behind post-deployment healthcare
delivery process improvement. Projects are competitively funded by the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department
of Defense, and the National Institute on Aging.

DeployMed ResearchLINK
The Office of Force Health Protection
and Readiness Policy and Programs has developed the DeployMed ResearchLINK Web site to provide information
about government-funded scientific studies of medical issues experienced by military
members during deployments. The site contains information on deployment health-related
research within DoD, the Veterans Administration and the Department of Health and
Human Services. This site is a merger of two previous Web sites: MedSearch (which
was dedicated to government-sponsored research into the illnesses of Gulf War veterans)
and DeployMed (which was a more expansive source of information about military deployments
in general, to include the Gulf War of 1991).

DoD Center for Deployment Health Research
Naval Health Research Center (NHRC)
serves as a leading Medical Research laboratory for the Department of Defense (DoD)
and the United States Navy. As the Military Operational Medicine research leader
for the USN, NHRC's mission is to promote, protect, and maintain the health of USN
and USMC personnel and beneficiaries through biomedical research and support the
medical readiness of the armed services.

VA Office of Research & Development
This web site
serves as a resource for VA-funded researchers and research staff to learn of new
funding opportunities, updated guidance and deadlines, and other topics of interest.

U.S. Army Research Institute for the Behavioral
and Social Sciences
ARI acts as Army’s lead laboratory for training, leader development, and soldier
research and development. ARI also serves as a center of excellence for Army personnel,
Surveys, and Occupational Analysis.

Military Operational Medicine Research Program
(MOMRP)
The Military Operational Medicine Research
Program (MOMRP) provides biomedical solutions that protect Soldiers and
enhance their performance in operational and training environments that include
multiple stressors. It is a unique biomedical research program oriented towards
problem-solving with a human physiology research focus.

ClinicalTrials.gov
ClinicalTrials.gov provides regularly updated information about federally and privately
supported clinical research on human volunteers. ClinicalTrials.gov gives you information
about a trial's purpose, who may participate, locations, and phone numbers for more
details. The information provided on ClinicalTrials.gov should be used in conjunction
with advice from health care professionals.
