Our Partners
The DoD Patient Safety Program (PSP) partners with several Federal agencies including the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Health Administration, the Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Center for Patient Safety, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).
The DoD PSP also partners with several nonprofit organizations such as the National Patient Safety Foundation, the National Quality Forum and The Joint Commission. These organizations continue to improve the Military Health System’s (MHS) overall patient care and safety.
To produce quality training and education products and services, including the Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS®) system the DoD PSP collaborates with AHRQ. Partnerships with various educational institutions and the civilian health care organizations were subsequently established to make TeamSTEPPS accessible for all medical professionals. Through funding support and direct interaction, the DoD PSP also created Team Resource Centers (TRCs) across the country. TRCs conduct fundamental research on teamwork and patient safety, development and validation of tools, demonstration projects, applied research, and translation as well as dissemination activities on research findings. Considered centers of excellence within MHS, there are five TRCs located at the following DoD locations:
- Army Trauma Training Center (ATTC), Miami FL
- National Capital Area Medical Simulation Center (NCAMSC), Silver Spring, MD
- Andersen Simulation Center at Madigan Army Medical Center (AMC), Tacoma, WA
- Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, VA
- 60th Medical Group, David Grant Medical Center, Travis Air Force Base, CA
