Since the Civil War, many service members belonging to what we now call the Military Health System have been recognized for the nation's highest military decoration, the Medal of Honor.
These U.S. military medical personnel faced life-or-death decisions few will ever have to make. With only seconds to react, these brave service members risked their lives in order to save the lives of others. For some of them, it was the last decision they ever made.
While some of these heroes never returned home to tell their story, their legacy lives on in the hearts of the American people.
Here we recognize these service members and their selfless, daring displays of bravery.
Do you know of a Medal of Honor recipient who serves/served the MHS?
