Register for the Defense Medical Virtual Library

Library service is available to the following groups:

  • Headquarters staff of the Surgeons General of the Army, Navy, and Air Force
  • Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs
  • Defense Health Agency Employees (assigned to the Defense Health Headquarters)

Online Registration

Access to the Defense Medical Virtual Library requires online registration. Military and government civilians self-register. Contractors must have their Contracting Officer Representative (COR) complete the entire registration process. The COR must have previously registered online and obtained an Athens account.

Athens registration is a two-step process, first the online registration and then the account activation. Approved registrants will receive their Athens username/ID by email within five working days. The email will be sent by ‘Eduserv Athens’. Activating your Athens account will include establishing a password. To complete your registration, you must activate your account. The password is secure and not accessible by the library staff.

If you registered for an Athens ID/Password with another library, you must use a different .mil email address or cancel your existing Athens account. Athens accounts are authenticated by your .mil email address. Athens will block your attempt to setup another account.

If you have problems with registering or have further questions regarding your eligibility to register, please contact the library staff.
