The Medical Team Performance Assessment Tool (MTPAT) is a software application that supports the transition and sustainment of Click to closeTeamSTEPPSTeam Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS) is an evidence-based teamwork system designed to improve the quality, safety and efficiency of healthcare. TeamSTEPPS consists of a collection of instructions, materials and tools to help drive a successful teamwork initiative from the initial planning to implementation through to sustainment. The system is designed to improve patient safety using a three-phase approach: Phase I Assessment: Facility determines organizational readiness; Phase II Planning, Training & Implementation: Facility “decides what to do” and “makes it happen;” and Phase III Sustainment: Facility spreads the improvements in teamwork performance, clinical processes and outcomes resulting from the TeamSTEPPS initiative.TeamSTEPPS principles through evaluation, debrief and analysis of healthcare team performance in training and operational environments.
MTPAT provides the observer/evaluator with data collection tools for rapidly recording observed teamwork behaviors, and teamwork behaviors that are expected but not observed. Measures and rating scales allow for evaluating the use of TeamSTEPPS principles and tools and the application of core teamwork skills. The user interface provides capabilities for recording general or measure specific comments, assigning observations to an individual team member (role) and linking event time and observer comments with teamwork observations, to generate an annotated, sortable log of teamwork observations. In addition, MTPAT supports editing, organizing and displaying performance observations to provide post exercise feedback to the team. Summary reports can be generated in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint to support after action debrief and performance analysis.
MTPAT Streamlined Version (MTPAT-SV) provides a limited functionality tool with a user interface designed to support quick start-up and ease of use for data collection and debrief. It is designed to accommodate smaller touch screen tablets that use a Microsoft Windows Operating System.

System Requirements
MTPAT –
- Microsoft Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 operating system with .Net Framework 2.0 or later.
- Microsoft Office 2003 or later (to generate Microsoft Excel or PowerPoint reports).
- Note: For systems with Microsoft Office 2010 and the Microsoft Vista or Windows 7 operating system, MTPAT will need to run in Windows XP Compatibility Mode to generate PowerPoint reports. Compatibility mode can be enabled by right-clicking on the MTPAT launch shortcut icon on the Desktop, select Properties at the bottom of the menu, then the Compatibility tab in the Properties window, and check the box to run the program in Windows XP compatibility mode.
MTPAT-SV –
- Microsoft Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 operating system with .Net Framework 3.5 or later.
