The National Disaster Medical System conducted a full-scale exercise on Nov. 13, 2024, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, featuring the 155th Air Refueling Wing’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Enhanced Response Force Package Detachment-1. The exercise brought together local, state and federal agencies to simulate a large-scale emergency response scenario, highlighting the collaboration needed during domestic crises.

The stigma surrounding mental health can often keep people from seeking treatment. For some soldiers, seeking treatment for behavioral health at a soldier recovery unit feels awkward, but it shouldn’t be—according to U.S. Army Capt. Kyra Maggio, who did just that.

When Information Systems Technician U.S. Navy 1st Class Maria Edwards, 41, got a stage three breast cancer diagnosis in 2022, her life was upended. The process for medical retirement from the Navy began while she underwent chemotherapy. Then another complication came up: her mother who came to Hawaii to care for Edwards, soon got her own cancer diagnosis, which required Edward’s care.

When a Command Assessment Program candidate collapsed, her doc was right behind her - literally. Sgt. Minjin Choi, a licensed practical nurse from the 531st Field Hospital and currently at Fort Knox supporting CAP, was running with her, enabling Choi to catch the candidate as she passed out and immediately give aid.
