Under the new law, previously TRICARE certified Quality Autism Service Providers (QASPs) will no longer be able to practice at the assistant behavior analyst provider level (i.e., they will not be able to provide supervision, assist with assessments and treatment plan development, and render parent/caregiver guidance).
Additionally, while TRICARE can no longer recognize QASP certification for the assistant level in Texas, TRICARE will permit these specific providers to practice as a behavior technician without having to obtain the BT certification. However, this also means that these affected providers must adhere to the BT requirements set for the TRICARE Operations Manual Chapter 18, Section 4 (obtain 5% supervision, be reimbursed at the BT level, and only render 0364T/0365T) until such time that state licensure laws specify BT requirements.
If you are a QASP in the state of TX, you should contact your Managed Care Support Contractors (MCSCs) immediately. The MCSCs will contact affected providers directly with further guidance.
If you require additional assistance, please contact your regional contractor
