Clinical Affairs

We serve to foster the ultimate goal of full restoration of normal human function for our beneficiaries with extremity trauma and amputation. This goal will take decades to achieve. Until then, DoD will strive to achieve:

Individualized, optimized functional outcomes that are driven by patient goals and supported through a whole person transdisciplinary healthcare team approach.

Amputation Care ECHO

Amputation Care ECHO is a hub and spoke educational, tele-mentoring model that links expert specialist teams at a ‘hub’ with clinicians at other locations – the ‘spokes’ of the model. Together, they participate in monthly ECHO sessions to learn new material and discuss case studies.  Each Amputation Care ECHO event contains a didactic presentation with time allotted for engaged discussion and case study presentations.  Participants serve as mentors and colleagues, sharing their medical knowledge and expertise with clinicians new to amputation or those who do not routinely work with amputation.

Amputation Care ECHO strives to:

  • Improve outcomes by reducing variations in processes of care and sharing of best practices and expertise.
  • Utilize case-based learning: guided practice through diverse, real-life cases with subject matter experts to facilitate learning by doing and creating learning loops. Over time, these learning loops create deep knowledge, skills and self-efficacy.

Amputation Care ECHO Is held the fourth Wednesday of the month from 1200 – 1300 ET.
