As the U.S. government lead for international disaster response, USAID Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance created the JHOC in 2004 at the request of the Department of Defense. The JHOC was established for select U.S. military leaders and planners to discuss the relationship between USAID/OFDA and its partners.
The two-day training utilizes interactive presentations, participant discussion groups and case study methodology.
Learning Objectives
- Identify areas of mutual coordination and cooperation between U.S. civilian agencies and the U.S. military, including best practices and lessons learned.
- Become familiar with the international disaster response system, including the role of the host nation, international and non-governmental organizations, and UN agencies.
- Understand their unique roles and responsibilities as they relate to U.S. civilian and military entities.
Target Audience
The JHOC audiences includes DOD civilians, officers and NCO’s in operations, logistics, communications, medical, planning and civil affairs. Additionally, HA/DR practitioners and researchers from the NGO and academic communities are welcome.
Funding
This course is NOT centrally funded. Funding will need to be obtained through the student's unit.
Applying for the course
Please note: Students who submit a service nomination request form and are not selected must re-submit a nomination form. The nomination forms DO NOT carry over to subsequent courses. The purpose of resubmitting a nomination form is to ensure that students are available for the course dates and the enrollment data matches course selection dates for audit purposes.
Funding: There are currently no registration fees for this course. Funding will be obtained through your unit unless informed otherwise.
- Air Force: Personnel CANNOT SELF-NOMINATE; nominations must come through their respective COCOM/MAJCOM/NAF, and the list of nominees, including ANG and AFRC, will be sent directly to the HAF/SGXT OrgBox (usaf.pentagon.af-sg.mbx.afmsa-sgxt-workflow@health.mil). Nominations sent directly to DMRTI will be disregarded without acknowledgment.
- All other services and components: Submit a service nomination request through the DMRTI JKO Community Page:
- Log onto Joint Knowledge Online.
- Enter the DMRTI Community Page.
- Complete the form and submit.
- You will be notified approximately 45 days from the course start day only if you were selected or placed on an alternate list.
- If you were not selected, you will need to complete another service nomination request for a later course.
- Service nomination requests will close 60 days from the course start date and the link will be disabled.
- You will need to notify you service rep or email DMRTI if you are requesting a service nomination selection after the closing date.
