Global Avian Influenza Outbreaks product. Since late 2015, a large number of varying subtypes of avian influenza outbreaks have impacted countries around the world. The Global avian influenza outbreaks interactive product illustrates the overlap of zoonotic influenzas among humans and animals with an infographic, time animation and interactive maps.

Global Avian Influenza Outbreaks as of 22 Dec 2017

Since Jan. 1, 2016, there have been a large number of outbreaks of varying subtypes of avian influenza affecting countries around the globe. This product analyzes the temporal relevance for these outbreaks as well as their correlation with avian flyways. This product contains:

  • An infographic illustrating the overlap of zoonotic influenzas among humans and animals
  • An infographic demonstrating the DOD relevance of novel influenza A viruses
  • Time animation showing the global progression of avian influenza A (H5N8) in birds since the fall of 2016
  • Interactive maps with relevant subtype information and major global avian flyways
 Analysis of the MERS-CoV Epidemic Interactive Map. The Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) is a respiratory disease caused by a novel coronavirus. MERS-CoV is fatal in roughly one third of reported cases. It circulates predominately in the Arabian Peninsula, which is an active military theater. This MERS-CoV analysis and interactive product features infographics, time animations, interactive maps and an in-depth analysis of clusters of MERS-CoV. The interactive tool is available to offer a better understanding of the MERS-CoV epidemic.

Analysis of the MERS-CoV Epidemic

MERS-CoV is a respiratory disease caused by a novel coronavirus discovered in 2012. It is fatal in approximately one-third of reported cases and predominately circulates in the Arabian Peninsula, an active military theater, placing U.S. troops at risk of exposure. This product contains:

  • Infographics discussing relevance to DOD assets and DOD laboratory capabilities
  • Time animations showing the progression of the epidemic
  • Interactive maps with relevant demographics
  • An in-depth analysis of clusters of MERS-CoV cases as of 31 MAY 2016

Click the image to view the Ebola in West Africa, 2014 interactive product. Ebola virus disease is a type of hemorrhagic fever that is extremely infectious and often deadly. This product demonstrates the progression of the Ebola epidemic that occurred predominately in West Africa in 2014.

In MAR 2014, an outbreak of Ebola virus disease (EVD) was detected in West Africa. This GIF displays the progression and spread of EVD from Liberia to neighboring Sierra Leone and Guinea between MAR 2014 and JAN 2015.

Click the image to view this interactive product. Chikungunya virus infection is a vector-borne illness characterized by fever and joint pain. In 2014, chikungunya began to spread in the Caribbean and South America, a region that had previously never reported the virus. This product demonstrates the progression of the chikungunya epidemic as it spreads throughout the Western Hemisphere.

Starting in MAR 2014, chikungunya virus was introduced into the Caribbean and South America. This GIF displays the cumulative weekly incidence of reported autochthonous cases between MAR 2014 and MAR 2015.
