Electronic Institutional Review Board Modernization

The Electronic Institutional Review Board (EIRB) is a Department of Defense (DoD)-wide web-based application for submission, management, and regulatory oversight of research protocols, supporting documents and scholarly products.

EIRB is a lifecycle management tool for research involving humansand animals, and facilitates radiation safety, publication clearance,and DoD-unique reviews. EIRB users include research facility staff members, investigators, reviewers, Institutional Review Boards (IRBs), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees (IACUCs), and regulatory oversight staff.

Background

EIRB supports the directive of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs to achieve a DoD-wide automated system for integration of DoD research, irrespective of Defense Health Program funding.
