This graph presents a series of 2 column pairs, with accompanying marker for each, representing each major burden of disease category. This figure provides data for both care provided in military as well as civilian facilities for members of the reserve components. The first column in each pair represents the number of medical encounters attributable to a burden of disease major category. The second column shows the number of individuals affected by the disease category. The marker depicts the number of hospital bed days attributable to that category. Injury and musculoskeletal diseases were the 2 most frequent burden of disease major categories associated with medical encounters among reserve component service members. More hospital bed days were attributed to the mental health disorders category than any other single burden of disease major category. This figure consists of 2 stacked columns that compile the 17 leading major burden of disease categories pertaining to care provided in military as well as civilian facilities to members of the reserve components. The first column depicts the total number of medical encounters and the second depicts the total number of hospital bed days attributable to burden of disease major categories by percentage. Each column totals 100% with an “All Others” category included. Injury accounted for 22.3% of all medical encounters and 11.9% of all hospital bed days. Mental health disorders accounted for 35.4% of all hospital bed days.
