About this Site

Through the Health Care Survey of DoD Beneficiaries, the Department of Defense asks its beneficiaries to report on the quality of their experience with the military health system (MHS). This site presents scores calculated from responses of beneficiaries who say they get most of their care from a TRICARE health plan. Scores are presented in five categories:

  • Ease of access
  • Communication and customer service
  • Ratings of doctors, health care and health plan
  • Preventive care
  • Healthy Behavior

NEW IN THIS REPORT!

In this year’s report, new benchmark data, from the 2011 National CAHPS Benchmarking Data Base is used in calculating current benchmarks.

A new service affiliation, Joint Service, appears for the first time in this report. The scores for Walter Reed and Ft. Belvoir are displayed under North Joint Service. On trend pages displaying prior years 2010 and 2011, Walter Reed and Ft. Belvoir are also included as Joint Service despite not being classified as such until 2012. Similarly, for 2010 and 2011, Walter Reed scores include both Walter Reed and Bethesda.

The definition of counseled to quit changed prior to 2011. The measure now includes smokers and other tobacco users with physician visits in the last 12 months who were counseled to quit sometimes, usually, or always. Previously the definition involved only smokers who were counseled to quit at least once. As such, scores and benchmarks for Counseled To Quit are shown as NA for 2010.

The site is set up so that you can see scores for each enrollment and beneficiary group, for CONUS MHS (the MHS in the United States), for each region, and for each MTF catchment area. Scores are compared to nationally recognized standards or benchmarks. Current Scores combine results for all surveys administered in FY 2012.
