Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Marcques J. Nettles was killed on April 2, 2006, in Anbar Province, Iraq, when the truck he was riding in during a combat logistics convoy rolled over in a flash flood. The 22-year-old hospital corpsman had been in Iraq for less than three months at the time of his death. A remembrance of Nettles’ life was held on May 7, 2006, at the New Beginnings Christian Center in Portland, Oregon. Accompanied by the sound of bagpipes and a 21-gun military salute, he was buried at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
