Sergeant Roger P. Peña, Jr., lost his life while supporting his country in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He died June 14, 2006, while on a resupply mission. The convoy he was in came under enemy small-arms fire during combat operations in Musa Qulah, Afghanistan. The 29-year-old combat medic had only recently been promoted to sergeant. Sergeant Peña was assigned to the 10th Sustainment Brigade, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry) out of Fort Drum, New York. Funeral services for the fallen Soldier were held June 23, 2006, at the San Fernando Cathedral in San Antonio, Tex­as. He was laid in his final resting place with full military honors in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
