Pfc. David A. Jefferson, of Philadelphia, died July 2, 2010, in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using an improvised explosive device. Jefferson, 23, was hoping to build on his experience as a combat medic and attend medical school after his service.
