Civilian Enduring Partnerships

The Defense Health Agency and the Air Force, Army, and Navy have partnered with 40 civilian training programs to offer dedicated training spots for military Medical Corps officers. These partnership programs provide a path to a military medical career through civilian training.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Designated Spots: Specific civilian programs have agreed to reserve a certain number of residency slots specifically for military (Air Force, Army, or Navy) applicants.
  • Military-Relevant Curriculum: These programs will provide some military-specific training or experiences. An example of this is that all General Surgery residents in these programs will have a rotation caring for burn patients.
  • No MTF Rotations: A key difference from other partnerships is that these programs don't have rotations in military hospitals. This means you'll get excellent clinical training, but it will be outside the military system.
  • Follow-on Training: Because of the lack of MTF rotations, graduates will require additional training on working in an MTF (e.g. MHS GENESIS, physical profiles) and military acculturation beyond the MILDEP’s Officer Basic Course.
  • How to Apply: These positions are listed in each MILDEP's annual training plan. You'll compete for these spots through the Joint Graduate Medical Education Selection Board.
