Program Description

The Temple University General Surgery Residency Program strives to prepare surgeons to provide high quality care that benefits their patients and community. We accomplish this purpose by offering residents training in the technical and non-technical skills required to care for our patient’s physical, psychological, emotional, and social needs. We also provide professional development to our residents aimed at advancing the field of surgery through education, advocacy, and research.

Aligned with the institutional mission, we aim to attract residents and faculty of diverse backgrounds that are representative of the community in Philadelphia in which we serve. We approach our work with integrity, kindness, curiosity, and accountability.

Military Affiliation Highlights

The General Surgery Residency Program at Temple University Hospital offers 1 position each year through the military match process. The program has a single service affiliation with the Navy.

The curriculum includes a broad based general surgery education, but includes significant experience with penetrating trauma and with burn surgery.
