Program Description

The Temple University General Surgery Residency Program strives to prepare surgeons to provide high quality care that benefits their patients and community. We accomplish this purpose by offering residents training in the technical and non-technical skills required to care for our patient’s physical, psychological, emotional, and social needs. We also provide professional development to our residents aimed at advancing the field of surgery through education, advocacy, and research.

Aligned with the institutional mission, we aim to attract residents and faculty of diverse backgrounds that are representative of the community in Philadelphia in which we serve. We approach our work with integrity, kindness, curiosity, and accountability.

Military Affiliation Highlights

One dedicated military position is available each year for an Army applicant. The University is located in a dense military region near Buckley with an easy commute to bases around the Colorado Springs area. Faculty have experience working with military sponsored residents.

The residents rotate at 4 sites:

  • The University of Colorado
  • Denver Health
  • Children’s Hospital Colorado
  • VA

The University of Colorado and Denver Health are both level I trauma centers which allow significant experience in Interventional Radiology management of trauma. Additionally, the residents rotate in the Surgical ICU.
