Civil War surgeon Army Maj. Jonathan Letterman built blueprint to save the wounded

For his revolutionary innovations during the Civil War, Army Maj. Jonathan Letterman is known as the “Father of Battlefield Medicine.” His visionary innovations shaped battlefield casualty evacuation throughout history. Letterman Army Medical Center was named in 1911 after the foundational figure and carried on his legacy of warfighter care throughout historical conflicts until deactivation in 1995.
