Public Health and Medical Services in Defense Support of Civil Authorities Course

Format: Resident, Exportable

The PH Med DSCA classroom-only course focuses on working in support of National Preparedness to prepare, respond, and recover from an all-hazards incident. Participants gain knowledge and skills using expert presentations, table-top exercises, and professional interactions. Major speakers are representatives from various military and governmental agencies including Federal Emergency Management Agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Public Health Service, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Health and Human Services, and the U.S. Northern Command. State and local topics are presented by state and local emergency management and public health officials. Additionally, we invite a leading industry partner to discuss corporate preparedness and integration efforts locally and at the state and national levels.

Course Prerequisites

The following courses are available on the FEMA website:

  • IS 100 - Introduction to the Incident Command System
  • IS 200 - Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response
  • IS 700 - An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
  • IS 800 - National Response Framework, An Introduction

The following course is available on Joint Knowledge Online (CAC required)

  • J3S-T-US010 - Defense Support of Civil Authorities Phase I Course (JKO CBT)

Applying for a Course

To Self-Nominate/Enroll see below.

Application/Enrollment Instructions:

  1. Log onto Joint Knowledge Online (CAC required).
  2. Click on Community page.
  3. Under MHS Courses by Author, Click DMRTI.
  4. Under Links section, click on course hyperlink you wish to attend, complete the form and submit.
  5. You will be notified approximately 45 days from the course start day ONLY if you were selected or placed on an alternate list.
  6. If you were not selected, you will need to complete another service nomination request for a later course.
  7. Service nomination requests will close 60 days prior to the course start date and the link will be disabled.
    • You will need to notify your service rep or email DMRTI if you are requesting a service nomination selection after the closing date, or if you have any questions.

Note: Nominations for this course close 60 days prior to course date. If you would like to enroll after the closing date; please contact your service representative.

All course dates may be rescheduled if the minimum student quota requirement has not been met. In the rare event of course cancellation or date change, DMRTI will notify all students as soon as changes are confirmed. Confirmed registered students will have priority in the next course.
