Military Health System Notice of Privacy Practices

The Military Health System (MHS) Notice of Privacy Practices (NoPP) is a notice that explains:

  • How the MHS will use your protected health information (PHI);
  • When and where the MHS may disclose your PHI;
  • How to limit where the MHS will disclose your PHI; and
  • How the MHS will protect your PHI.

DHA published a new NoPP on Oct. 1, 2013 making the 2003 NoPP void. You can get the new NoPP from any military hospital or clinic (also referred to as "military treatment facilities" or "MTFs").

This notice describes how medical information about you may be used and disclosed and how you can get access to this information. Please review it carefully.

This Notice of Privacy Practices is required by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule. If you have any questions about this notice, please contact the HIPAA Privacy Officer at your MTF or, if necessary, the DHA Privacy and Civil Liberties Office (PCLO). See "Contact Information" at the end of this notice.

Acknowledgement of Receipt of this Notice

You may be asked to sign that you received this notice. If you choose not to sign, the MHS will still provide your health care, and your rights described in this notice will not be affected.
