Messages for Communicators

  • Our mission is to promote a culture of safety to end preventable patient harm.
    • Patient safety is a priority for the MHS all year long.
  • MHS patient-care teams are engaged, educated and equipped to put evidenced-based leading practices in place across the organization.
  • Patient engagement is key to building a trusted relationship between providers and patients and their families that leads to safer care.
  • Leaders at every level and all staff help drive high reliability forward to achieve the goal of zero preventable harm on behalf of our beneficiaries.
  • Patient Safety is advancing Ready Reliable Care, every day, in every level at every military hospital and clinic.
  • The ongoing MHS transition strengthen accountability, transparency, and standardization to prevent harm, promote continuous learning, and improve the quality of care and services delivered in the MHS.
    • The MHS is working towards standardizing safety solutions through tools like Ready Reliable Care Safety Communication Bundle, the Patient Culture Survey, and the TeamSTEPPSTeam Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS) is an evidence-based teamwork system designed to improve the quality, safety and efficiency of healthcare. TeamSTEPPS consists of a collection of instructions, materials and tools to help drive a successful teamwork initiative from the initial planning to implementation through to sustainment. The system is designed to improve patient safety using a three-phase approach: Phase I Assessment: Facility determines organizational readiness; Phase II Planning, Training & Implementation: Facility “decides what to do” and “makes it happen;” and Phase III Sustainment: Facility spreads the improvements in teamwork performance, clinical processes and outcomes resulting from the TeamSTEPPS initiative.TeamSTEPPS app.
