Air Force Capt. (Dr.) Laura Barrera (left front), pictured here with Uniformed Services University's second Enlisted to Medical Degree Preparatory Program class, shares her journey from senior airman to flight surgeon and emergency physician. The program, known as EMDP2, puts enlisted service members on a path to becoming military physicians through coursework, mentorship, and medical school preparation. At the heart of her journey is taking care of the patient. “I like being the one that people depend on,” Barrera said.
