The primary purpose of this course is to provide health care professionals with the ability to access and stabilize patients with burn injuries during the first critical hours following injury. Additionally, they will be able to identify those patients requiring transfer to a burn center.
Located on Fort Sam Houston, ABLS is a one-day in-person course hosted by DMRTI, in partnership with the Institute of Surgical Research’s Burn Center at Brook Army Medical Center.
Course of instruction includes a didactic portion, which provides the basic concepts of assessing the magnitude and severity of burn injuries, while establishing a management treatment plan. Students will then participate in case study discussions, before being evaluated during a practical skills assessment and written exam.
This course is intended for all DOD medical professionals who provide initial care to burn patients.
