The theme for the 2023 Patient Safety Awareness Week, March 12-18, is “Be a Patient Safety Hero: Anywhere, Anytime – Always.” While every day is a patient safety day for the Military Health System, a unique spotlight shines on this issue during this international education and awareness-building campaign.

Brooke Army Medical Center was recognized by the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program for achieving meritorious outcomes for surgical patient care in 2021, ranking the hospital among the top 10 percent of participating hospitals for surgical care.

The American College of Surgeons (ACS) has recognized Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) as one of the first 25 hospitals verified through its inaugural Quality Verification Program (QVP). WRNMMC was the only Department of Defense facility achieving the ACS quality verification.

This issuance establishes policy, assigns responsibilities, and defines requirements for the development and establishment of the FHPQA Program in accordance with the authority in DoD Directive (DoDD) 5124.02, Sections 731 and 738 of Public Law 108-375; Sections 1074f, 1092a, and 1073b of Title 10, United States Code; and DoDDs 6200.04 and 5136.13.
